Itaewon tragedy: PM Ismail Sabri conveys condolences to South Korea

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today expressed his deepest condolences to the people of South Korea regarding the stampede at a Halloween party in Itaewon district in Seoul on Saturday night.

“On behalf of the government and people of Malaysia, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the people of the Republic of Korea, following the horrific tragedy in Itaewon, Seoul on Oct 29.

“Our sympathy (and) prayers are with the victims and their families,” he said via his Twitter account.

It was reported that the death toll from the Halloween crowd crush in Seoul had risen to 154, including 26 foreigners.

The tragedy, which happened in a narrow 3.2-metre-wide alley in Seoul’s entertainment district, marked the deadliest crowd crush in South Korea’s history and the worst disaster in the country since 2014, when the ferry Sewol sank in waters off the south coast and killed 304 people, mostly high school students.
