GUA PELANGI GEOTRAIL, A POTENTIAL TOURIST ATTRACTION IN JELEBU

JELEBU, The Gua Pelangi archaeological research site located in Felda Pasoh 4 will be developed as a geotrail package to promote ecotourism in this district.

State Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman, Nicole Tan Lee Koon, said the discovery of 14,000-year-old historical artifacts in 2015 has enough elements to be a geotrail area.

“Historical elements are already there, it just needs to be completed, for example in terms of signage, training for guides (geo guides), basic facilities and so on.

“I also think there should be a gallery to house artifacts found in previous research,” she told reporters after a visit to Gua Pelangi with the Negeri Sembilan Museum Board (LMNS), the state Forestry Department and the Department of Minerals and Geosciences Malaysia.

In the meantime, she said her committee is trying to find funds to complete the research phase of the artifact in the Gua Pelangi and planned to present it in the next Negeri Sembilan Budget.

In 2015, the media reported that a group of researc
hers from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) found prehistoric artefacts in Gua Pelangi here that were 14,000 years old. Among the finds were tools such as stone axes and prehistoric human food remains such as deer and snails.

Located 20 kilometres from Jelebu town, the discovery of stone artefacts and leftover food is important in explaining the origin of Negeri Sembilan and Jelebu district itself.
