FT’s Nur Idrina Outduels Close Friend Resha For SUKMA Fencing Gold

MIRI, The phrase ‘fortune favours the bold’ perfectly captures the unexpected success of Nur Irdina Amani Imran, who claimed gold for the Federal Territories (FT) in the women’s fencing sabre individual event at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) today.

At just 14 years old and entering the competition as an underdog, Nur Irdina surpassed expectations by winning gold, despite initially targeting only a bronze in her second SUKMA appearance.

In a thrilling final at the Eastwood Valley Golf Club, the Kolej Yayasan Saad Melaka student came from behind, trailing 6-10 before clawing back to win 15-14 against fellow team member and close friend, S. Resha Shaveena.

‘I aimed for bronze because I knew the competition was fierce and the gold seemed out of reach,’ she told Bernama.

‘In previous encounters, I struggled against Resha and rarely scored more than five points. But today, I managed to overcome her in a tough final,’ she said.
