FRIM Commercialisation Day 2024: Driving Innovation, Research-driven Growth


KUALA LUMPUR, The two-day Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) Commercialisation Day 2024 (HKF2024), which began yesterday, aims to promote the innovation and commercialisation of research results based on natural resources and green technology.

FRIM, in a statement today, said that HKF2024, themed ‘Creating Opportunities for Economic and Environmental Sustainability’, provides a platform for researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry players to enhance collaboration and foster the development of sustainable, eco-friendly innovations.

‘HKF2024 features various events, including technology exhibitions, sales by entrepreneurs, interactive sessions with leading scientists on key topics, and technology pitching sessions by FRIM researchers highlighting technical services and consulting,’ it said.

The event, held at the FRIM Auditorium, was officiated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) deputy secretary-general (Natural Resources) Norsham Abdul Latip, representing Mi
nister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Also present were FRIM director-general Datuk Dr Ismail Parlan, Forestry Peninsular Malaysia director-general Datuk Zahari Ibrahim, FRIM Incorporated Sdn Bhd (FRIM Inc) chairman Noor Azmi Mat Said, as well as members of the institute, heads of departments under the ministry, and representatives from various companies.

Norsham also launched the FRIM Technologies logo and witnessed the signing of several agreements and cooperation notes, including the Tongkat Ali Product Development and Pre-Commercialisation Cooperation Agreement; the HerbaXpress System as an e-commerce gateway, and FRIM’s collaboration with Shue Guitars Company in the research and development of musical instruments made from teak and non-commercial wood species.

The Tongkat Ali Product Development and Pre-Commercialisation Cooperation Agreement enables FRIM and FRIM Inc. to seek partners for expanding the market potential of Tongkat Ali products, leveraging extracts and active compounds, both nationally and inter
nationally.

Through the HerbaXpress System as an e-commerce gateway, FRIM, FRIM Inc., and Digital Dagang Sdn Bhd are collaborating to integrate the HerbaXpress database with the Cartsini platform, creating a new digital herbal marketplace known as Herba Cartsini.

Meanwhile, FRIM’s collaboration with Shue Guitars Sdn Bhd will see both parties working together to produce high-quality musical instruments. FRIM will provide technical advisory services, including wood species identification, durability testing, and specification assessments to ensure premium quality in the final products.

Ismail and Abdul Jabbar also presented the 2024 Commercialisation Excellence Award and the Quality Management Award to FRIM staff who demonstrated outstanding achievements in commercialisation and research, respectively.
