FOUR PERAK ATHLETES SELECTED FOR PARIS 2024 PARALYMPICS

IPOH, Four athletes from Perak have been selected to compete in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which will be held from Aug 28 to Sept 8.

The athletes are Nur Jannaton Abdul Jalil for archery, Nur Suraiya Muhamad Zamri and Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin for cycling, and Abu Samah Borhan for wheelchair tennis.

Perak Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah, said the state government and the people of Perak were thrilled and proud of this achievement, and it served as an inspiration for other state athletes to emulate the spirit shown by these athletes.

‘Their success means a great deal to us in Perak, just like Azeem (sprinter Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi) who was also selected for the Paris Olympics. We hope they will achieve great success there,’ he told the media after the Special Meeting of the Perak Contingent for SUKMA 2024 this afternoon.

At the event, the Perak State Government contributed RM4,000 to each of the four athletes as part of its efforts to
support them.

Previously, Muhammad Azeem from Teluk Intan, Perak, was selected for the 2024 Olympic Games through a ‘wild card’ slot.

Meanwhile, Khairudin said the state government would consider special incentives if any athletes from Perak managed to win medals at the international sports event.
