Floods: Police monitoring developments in Pagoh, Lenga

MUAR, March 2 (Bernama) — Police will focus on monitoring around Pagoh and Lenga here, which are at risk of severe floods if heavy rain continues.

Muar district police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said 150 officers and personnel have geared up to face any possibility and assist in the evacuation and rescue operations and crime prevention activities in flood-hit areas.

“The floods in Pagoh and Lenga will worsen if the water from rivers around Segamat and Labis flows here, in addition to being low-lying areas. At the same time, drainage ditches cannot contain a large runoff flow.

“Apart from the 150 personnel, we have additional manpower and are ready to mobilise our assets,” he told a press conference at the Muar District Police Headquarters here today.

Raiz Mukhliz said that only two roads were flooded so far, with Jalan Muar-Labis near the Sungai Tui bridge closed to all vehicles, while Jalan Kebun Kelapa Sawit -Jalan Tekam Pagoh is still passable.

As of 4 pm, 28,099 people have been affected by the floods in Johor, with 2,259 victims evacuated to 13 relief centres in Muar.

Meanwhile, several rivers in Segamat and Muar still exceed the danger level, including Sungai Muar in Segamat Kecil (Segamat) at 37.35 metres (m); Sungai Muar in Lubuk Kepong (Segamat) at 20.56m, while Sungai Muar in Bukit Kepong (Muar) at 4.48m.
