Floods: Only 141 evacuees at two relief centres in Batu Pahat

The number of flood evacuees in Batu Pahat continued to drop to 141 as of 4 this afternoon compared with 263 reported this morning following the closure of two temporary evacuation centres in the district.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (JBPN), the two relief centres are at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Hua Min and Sekolah Agama Seri Comel. Both centres were closed at 4 pm today.

There are two relief centres in the district still operating and giving shelter to 37 families – Yong Peng Community hall (79 people) and Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Medan (62 people).

“Areas affected by the floods in Yong Peng include Kampung Parit Lapis Bangas, Kampung Jalan Lama, Taman Melur, Kampung Parit Amil and Taman Desa Suria

“Meanwhile, in Sri Medan, Parit Yusof, Parit Haji Ahmad, Parit Warijo, Parit Bangas, Parit Sendayun and Parit Seri Pasir are still affected by floods,” it said in a statement today.

It also said that Sungai Bekok at Bekok Damn recorded alert level readings at 18.95 metres while 10 districts statewide are expected to experience rain this evening.
