Floods: Mom With Newborn Baby Happy With Comfortable Relief Centre

ALOR SETAR, A mother who gave birth 30 days ago expressed gratitude for being evacuated to a comfortable temporary flood centre that also provides medical assistance.

Siti Zulaiha Johari, 33 and her baby have been taking shelter at Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium since Thursday after floods hit her home in Kampung Tanjung, near here.

‘…I am grateful that the relief centre has complete facilities. MOH (Ministry of Health) staff always make sure that I am doing well and remind me to let them know right away if I feel uncomfortable or sick,’ she told Bernama.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited the relief centre and other locations affected by floods today.

Meanwhile, Shuhada Shuib, 37, an amputee from Kampung Alor Merah near here, was forced to miss her dialysis treatment for five days due to the floods.

‘I try to control myself. Alhamdulillah, so far, I’m doing well and can cope. MOH staff frequently check on my health. They are very concerned about my condition.

‘I’ve been on dialysis treatment
for over two years now, so I can manage my diet to lessen the effects since I haven’t had my dialysis treatment for several days. I might go to the treatment centre tomorrow,’ she said, adding that doctors had to amputate her right leg due to diabetes.

A total of 7,494 flood victims were evacuated due to the floods in Kedah as of 8 am.
