Fire leaves 81 families homeless in Bacolod City

BACOLOD CITY: At least 81 families were left homeless when a fire struck early past 3 a.m. Wednesday in Purok Kagaykay, Barangay 2 in this city.

This is the second fire incident in the coastal community in only five months after 13 homes were also razed last February, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said.

At least 73 houses were damaged by the fire that reportedly started from the house of Monaliza Magbanua. Eight others were considered partially damaged.

Damage to properties was placed at PHP1.4 million.

No one was injured from the fire incident that reached the second alarm and was put out an hour later.

Most of the affected residents are now staying in the barangay multi-purpose hall.

The affected families were immediately provided food packs, hygiene kits, water jugs and 4,000 liters of water.

In 2019, more than 200 houses were also hit by a fire in Purok Kagaykay while in 2016, another fire incident razed around 50 houses in the same area.
