Father Of BN’s Mahkota Candidate Laid To Rest


KLUANG, The remains of Syed Abdullah Syed Abdul Hamid, the father of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Mahkota by-election, were laid to rest at the Kampung Melayu Muslim Cemetery here at 11.20 am today.

BN candidate Syed Hussein Syed Abdullah said that before the burial, his father’s remains were brought to Masjid Datuk Ahmad for funeral prayers.

While deeply saddened by his father’s passing, Syed Hussein expressed acceptance of the loss, saying that he would draw strength from the deceased’s final words and advice.

‘My father’s last words were to be a good, trustworthy leaders who is loved by the people. I will uphold these words as a guiding principle in my future leadership should I be elected as a representative for the Mahkota constituency.

‘I’ve never anticipated that just hours after being nominated as BN candidate for the by-election, my beloved father had to be hospitalised and placed in induced coma due to heart problems,’ he told reporters today.

Syed Abdullah, 67, had been receiving t
reatment at Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital here since last Sunday and was placed in an induced coma before being pronounced dead at 7.20 pm yesterday.

Syed Hussien, 40, the Kluang UMNO Youth chief, was announced as the BN candidate for the Mahkota by-election, which was called following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.

The Election Commission has set Sept 28 for polling, while the nomination and early voting dates are Sept 14 and 24, respectively.
