Former Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Yaacob Sam was today admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
Yaacob, 66, who retired on March 12 this year, was called to the bar before High Court judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Md Shahid.
In congratulating Yaacob, Justice Ahmad Kamal said Yaacob, who was his former boss at the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), is very knowledgeable in legal-related issues. At today’s “long call’ ceremony, lawyer Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden helped Yaacob put on the robe.
Yaacob’s admission as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya was proposed by lawyer M. Athimulan.
In his speech to admit Yaacob, Athimulan said Yaacob had written more than 900 judgements and a total of 299 grounds of judgements in various legal issues during his tenure as a High Court Judge and Court of Appeal Judge. In January 2009, he was appointed as Judicial Commissioner and in August 2010 as Penang High Court Judge.
In 2012, he was transferred to Shah Alam as a High Court J
udge and was the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission (EAIC) chairman for three years effective Oct 15, 2014.
Meanwhile, Head of the Legal Division of the AGC, Donald Franklin, who appeared for the Attorney-General, and lawyer Nik Nurul Atiqah Nik Yusof, who acted for the Malaysia Bar, said they have no objections to the admission of the former judge to the Bar
