DPWH completes P41.2-M drainage, road widening project in Pangasinan

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of the PHP41.2 million drainage and road widening project in San Carlos City aimed to prevent flooding and provide better travel for motorists.

DPWH Ilocos Region information officer Esperanza Tinaza, in a statement on Wednesday, said the project is located along the Villasis-Malasiqui-San Carlos Road in Barangay Coliling San Carlos City thereby benefiting not only the residents of San Carlos City but also its neighboring towns.

The project included a 3.05-meter-wide road widening and a 1.4-meter-wide concrete drainage system, spanning almost 1.03 kilometers.

“By effectively channeling rainwater away from residential areas, businesses, and essential infrastructure, the project will help prevent water damage and reduce health risks associated with stagnant water, such as the breeding of disease-carrying insects,” Tinaza said.

The road widening, on the other hand, significantly improved traffic flow, r
educing the travel time to San Carlos City Town Center and Public Market by five to 15 minutes, down from the previous 20 to 25 minutes during peak hours from Barangay Coliling San Carlos City, she said.

The project, started on Feb. 6 this year and completed last Aug. 15, was funded under this year’s national budget. (PNA)
