DPM Fadillah Yusof Highlights ASEAN Energy Cooperation Ahead Of Malaysia’s 2025 Chairmanship

JAKARTA, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof visited the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) headquarters here to understand the centre’s plans for fostering energy development cooperation among ASEAN countries, particularly in the development of the ASEAN Power Grid.

He said that the briefing allowed Malaysia to gather early information in preparation for its role as Chair of ASEAN in 2025.

“This is a key area that will be highlighted when Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025,” he said in a post on his official Facebook account on Thursday.

Established on January 1, 1999, ACE is an intergovernmental organisation within the ASEAN structure that represents the interests of the 10 ASEAN member countries in the energy sector.

Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, also attended a lunch with Singapore’s Minister for Manpower, Dr. Tan See Leng.

Both leaders exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral relations in various sectors, including ma
tters related to the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) between Malaysia and Singapore.

Earlier, he held discussions with the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Selwin Hart, at the Jakarta Convention Centre.

“In the approximately 30-minute discussion, we exchanged views on solar energy, energy transition, solar and biomass efforts undertaken by the government through PETRA,” he said.

Fadillah and his delegation arrived here on Wednesday to attend the International Sustainability Forum (ISF) Indonesia 2024, which will be held from September 5 to 6, at the invitation of the Indonesian government.
