Dominant FT Sweep All Six Rhythmic Gymnastics Gold Medals At SUKMA 2024


KUCHING, The Federal Territories rhythmic gymnastics squad reaffirmed their dominance at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), sweeping all six gold medals in an outstanding display of skill and precision.

After securing one gold and one silver in the individual all-around event yesterday, the team added five more golds and two silvers in today’s competition at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here.

The star of the day was 13-year-old Cassidy Tan Jia Xin, who clinched two more gold medals and a silver.

Cassidy delivered a stunning performance in the ball event, earning 26.55 points to claim gold. Teammate, Rhea Dhaliwall, took silver with 25.35 points, while Selangor’s Lee Li Momoka Sam secured bronze with 24.20 points.

Cassidy then continued her impressive run by winning gold in the ribbon event with a score of 23.7 points.

Negeri Sembilan’s Dhaffatul Nurbaiti Harman got the silver with 22.40 points and Selangor’s Lee Li had to settle for the bronze with 21.9 points.

In the clubs event, FT’s Nur Zhafir
ah Wong Rudy Kurniawan, 14, delivered an outstanding routine, scoring 27.2 points to win gold.

Cassidy added a silver to her medal tally with 25.65 points, while Sarawak’s Jenevieve Tan Su Qi earned bronze with 24.15 points.

Nur Zhafirah also triumphed in the hoop event, securing another gold with a score of 23.2 points.

She outperformed her competitors, including Dhaffatul Nurbaiti (24.7 points) and Lee Li (23.65 points).

FT capped off their dominant performance by also winning the group apparatus event, earning a total score of 48.30 points, well ahead of Selangor (42.95 points) and Negeri Sembilan (42.25 points).

FT coach Olivia Tai expressed her delight with the team’s extraordinary performance, which surpassed their medal expectations.

‘We initially aimed for five golds but ended up with six. The secret to our success is discipline, hard work and support from everyone involved,’ she said.
