DHSUD, LGUs collaborate to provide speedy shelter assistance

Manila: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and local government units (LGUs) on Wednesday started to facilitate quick provision of assistance to affected families under the Integrated Disaster Shelter Assistance Program (IDSAP).

“Ngayon pa lamang ay dapat naka-on board na tayo sa LGUs para mabilis ang validation kung ilan at sino ang agarang tutulungan dahil nasiraan ng tahanan (We must be on-board with the LGUs for fast validation as to when and who needs immediate help because of house damage),” DHSUD Secretary Rizalino Acuzar said in a news release.

“Dapat agaran ang pagbibigay natin ng assistance dahil ngayon na kailangan ito (We must give immediate assistance because it is needed now).”

A memorandum was issued enjoining regional offices to “adopt an anticipatory and proactive approach in actively coordinating with the LGUs within their respective jurisdictions.”

It stated regional offices must ensure that information about the DHSUD’s financial assistance under the IDSA
P is relayed, including the distribution of complete and accurate forms to facilitate the processing of requests.

The IDSAP provides PHP30,000 cash assistance for those with totally damaged houses due to man-made or natural calamities, and PHP10,000 for the partially damaged.

On Tuesday, Acuzar ordered the activation of shelter clusters in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, the National Capital Region, and Cordillera Administrative Region to ensure preparedness.
