DAP Never Prposed Unity Govt, Comfortable With Balancing Role In Johor – Loke

JOHOR BAHRU, DAP never suggested the setting up of a Unity Government in Johor and is comfortable playing a balancing role in the state.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said the party took its responsibility seriously as outlined in a degree by His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who was Sultan of Johor at the time, that the opposition assemblymen be named as balancers.

“DAP’s stand, we never suggested a Unity Government in Johor as we accepted the fact that the Johor state government was set up before the Federal Goverment.

“We don’t want to disrupt the running of the government and I don’t want to complicate the situation. DAP has never sought seats or positions in the state government,’ he told reporters after officiating the Johor DAP convention here today, which was also attended by Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong.

He also urged that all parties stop all polemics alleging that Johor Pakatan Harapan (PH) wanting a Unity Government in Johor.

“In Johor, DAP has 10 assemblymen who play
their roles as balancers supporting the state government led by Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi well.

“They all have allocations and are invited to join the district development action councils. So there’s no polemics, instead we should focus on developing Johor as there are many projects here. Indirectly, we will develop the country,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Liew said during his speech at the convention that he intended to relinquish his position as Johor DAP chairman to allow his deputy Teo Nie Ching to take over after holding the post for a decade.

Liew did state that he would contest in the Johor DAP committee elections today, but if he was elected, he would nominate Teo as state chairman.
