Dabawenyos warned vs. heat, rains this week

DAVAO: Amid the onset of a high heat index, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) urged Dabawenyos on Tuesday to always be ready for ever-changing weather conditions this week.

CDRRMO chief Alfredo Baloran said the high heat index is still expected for the week despite cloudy skies.

“We need to stay hydrated. Also, Davao City is experiencing cloudy skies, but based on the forecast, our heat index will still reach 40 or more, especially during the peak hours from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm,” he said in an interview.

Baloran, however, said CDRRMO has yet to receive reports about strokes and other illnesses due to high prevailing high temperatures.

In preparation for La Niña season, Baloran said the CDRRMO is calibrating and installing river and coastal cameras, as well as flood warning sirens.

He said the rain-spawned La Niña is expected to be felt by the end of May.
