Conserve Sungai Perak Resources To Ensure Economic Sustainability – Saarani

TELUK INTAN, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad emphasised that river resources are a valuable asset that must be preserved to ensure the economic sustainability of local communities.

He noted that the conservation of Sungai Perak is a priority aligned with the aspirations of the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan, which focuses not only on economic development but also on environmental sustainability.

“The Hilir Perak region is a key area for aquaculture activities, with catches amounting to 296,447 metric tons valued at RM6.8 million as of July 2024.

‘The district is also a major supplier of cage-farmed fish, recording 1,326.9 metric tons worth RM22.5 million annually,” he said during the Perak Sejahtera 2030 decorated boat parade held in conjunction with the 2024 Hilir Perak district-level Malaysia Day celebration.

His speech was delivered by the State Committee on Infrastructure, Energy, Water, and Public Transport chairman, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.

Saarani highlighted that the imple
mentation of the Sungai Perak Aquaculture Zone, particularly in the Hilir Perak district, is one of the important initiatives identified under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan.

He added that to ensure the sustainability of Sungai Perak, conservation efforts must be executed more rigorously to combat water pollution, uncontrolled waste disposal, and unplanned development.

Meanwhile, nearly 60 decorated boats participated in the parade at the Department of Irrigation and Drainage grounds in Kampung Terengganu, symbolising the synergy between environmental conservation and economic development.

The event drew strong participation from government agencies, tourism operators, and local fishing communities, who adorned their boats with Jalur Gemilang flags.

The parade is a vibrant annual tradition aimed at enhancing the national month celebration and is usually incorporated into the Malaysia Day festivities.
