Comelec-Pangasinan surpasses up to 100K registrants goal

MALASIQUI: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Pangasinan has exceeded its 75,000 to 100,000 target registrants for the midterm elections this year after 123,000 voters have registered as of Aug. 15.

Comelec-Pangasinan election supervisor lawyer Marino Salas, in a virtual forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency-Pangasinan on Thursday, attributed this outcome to the off-site registrations being held in malls, villages, and schools in the entire province.

‘We have already accomplished 100 percent in off-site registration in all the barangays of the province,’ he said.

The recorded number of registered voters has already compensated the delisted voters in the province, he added.

After the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (village and youth council) elections in 2022, the Comelec cleansed the voters’ list and removed over 100,000 voters who either failed to vote twice, are already dead, or have transferred, Salas said.

Pangasinan has a total of 2.1 million voters to date.

Amidst the high tur
nout of voter’s registration, Salas continues to appeal to the residents to register and not wait for the deadline on Sept. 30 this year.

Meanwhile, Comelec is set to conduct a voters education and registration fair and automated counting machine (ACM) demonstration on Aug. 20 at the Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan City.

Salas said this is the first public demonstration of the new ACM in Northern Luzon.

‘We have invited senior high school students, persons with disability, senior citizens, and the media to watch the demo(nstration). We will also air it live via our social media account and entertain questions from the public about the ACM,’ he added.
