C. Visayas police vows learners’ safety from ‘homes to campuses’

CEBU CITY: The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 (Central Visayas) has intensified its personnel’s foot patrols to ensure the safety and security of learners during the opening of classes on Monday.

Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, director of PRO-7, ordered the chiefs of police stations to strengthen foot patrols in their jurisdiction to watch over schoolchildren’s journey from their homes to their schools.

Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, PRO-7 spokesperson, said police assistance desks would be established in every school in the region to assist parents and learners.

‘During the opening, we will be establishing public or police assistance desks in all schools. To make sure that if there will be security concerns parents, students, and pupils will have a desk to go to,’ Pelare said.

He said the instruction to conduct beat or foot patrols would be done throughout the school year to sustain peace and order within school premises and surrounding vicinities.

‘The instruction of our regional director to all station comma
nders is for them to touch base with the Parents Teachers Association. They have to meet with the PTA to make sure they know the concerns on the ground,’ Palare said in Cebuano.

Meanwhile, the PRO-7 conducted an inventory of the schools in the region and identified that 3,854 schools need to be provided with security details.

Of the number, 600 are private schools.

The police said they have not monitored any security threats.
