Butuan City drug bust nets P6.9M in shabu

BUTUAN CITY: Police arrested a major drug suspect and seized PHP6.9 million worth of suspected shabu in an anti-drug operation here on Wednesday, authorities said.

The suspect, identified only as “Emman,” 38, a high-value target, was arrested during a sting operation around 9:30 a.m. at the Sports Complex in Purok 2, Barangay Libertad. Officers recovered 1.2 kilograms of suspected shabu.

“The arrest of Emman sends a clear message that illegal drug activities will not be tolerated in Butuan City,” Col. Rommel Villamor, city police director, said in a statement Thursday.

The operation was launched by the Butuan City Police Office, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit-Caraga.

Authorities also arrested three other drug suspects in operations across the city on the same day.

The suspects will be charged with the violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
