Bus Driver Killed, 12 Others Injured In Accident Involving Three Vehicles


JOHOR BAHRU, A bus driver was killed while 12 others were injured in an accident involving three vehicles at Kilometre 49.4 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) here this morning.

Kulai district police chief Supt Tan Seng Lee said the accident occured at about 2.30 am, and involved a Scania bus and two lorries (Scania and Nissan models).

‘Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when the bus, travelling from Kuala Lumpur heading to Johor Bahru, is believed to have been unable to break in time and hit the back of the Nissan lorry,’ he said in a statement today.

‘As a result of the earlier collision, the Nissan lorry in turn collided with the Scania lorry.’

According to Tan, the bus driver was badly hurt in the accident and confirmed dead at the location.

He said six bus passengers received treatment at the Kluang Hospital whereas six other bus passengers received treatment at the Kulai Hospital.

Meanwhile, Renggam Fire and Rescue Station senior operations commander Mohd Fauzi Md
Nor in a separate statement said his team received a call related to the accident at 2.15 am.

He said the bus driver, Mohd Sharif A Moin, 48, was confirmed dead at the scene of the accident by Health Ministry officials and his body handed over to the police for further action,
