Bicol cops deploy water desalination equipment to ‘Kristine’-hit areas

Legazpi: The Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 (Bicol) has mobilized water desalination equipment to provide safe drinking water to residents affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) in Bicol provinces.

In an interview on Friday, PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said they are ramping up efforts to assist communities severely impacted by the weather disturbance, particularly in Albay and Camarines Sur provinces.

“Operations started in Oas, Albay, with plans to expand the water distribution to other municipalities in dire need. We will schedule it also for Camarines Sur in the coming days,” he said.

Dizon said each desalination unit can produce 400 liters of clean drinking water per hour, which will help alleviate the urgent water shortages.

‘Our priority is to ensure that the basic needs of our people, especially access to clean water, are met. We will continue to maximize our resources and work tirelessly to support those affected by this calamity,” he said.

Dizon added th
at Bicol police are ready to protect the people and extend their service to save lives and restore hope.

“PRO5 remains steadfast in its commitment to serving the public during this critical time, ensuring that relief operations are carried out efficiently and with urgency while coordinating closely with local government units and other agencies,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Albay Provincial Health Office (PHO) distributed medical supplies and hygiene kits to the rural and city health offices.

The latest monitoring by the PHO showed that medicines, medical supplies, and hygiene kits have been sent to Sto. Domingo, Bacacay, Malilipot, Malinao, and Tabaco in the First District; Daraga, Camalig, and Manito in the Second District; and Guinobatan, Oas, Polangui, and Ligao City in the Third District.
