Benipayo is new Light Rail Manila Corp. general manager

MANILA: The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) –the private operator of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1)– welcomed its former chief operating officer Enrico Benipayo as its new general manager.

In a statement on Monday, the LRMC said Benipayo will lead the company’s day-to-day activities, replacing former LRMC general manager Juan Alfonso.

‘Benipayo has a full breadth of knowledge in the rail transport sector having accumulated over 35 years of professional experience in the fields of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), Maintenance, and O and M (Operations and Maintenance) Consultancy,’ it said.

As part of the transition, LRMC Executive Committee chair and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) director Jose Ma. Lim will assume the role of LRMC president and chief executive officer (CEO) on an interim basis.

‘The company expresses profound gratitude for the dedication and hard work of Mr. Juan F. Alfonso who served as President and CEO in the past six years,’ it said.

Alfonso
led the LRMC in the rehabilitation of the existing LRT-1 system and in the construction of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project phase 1 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Alfonso will step up to a leadership position in Metro Pacific Light Rail Corporation -one of the LRMC’s shareholders and owned by the MPIC and Sumitomo Corporation.
