Bacolod City to Break Ground on PHP515-Million Legislative Building on December 4

Bacolod City – Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez of Bacolod City announced that the groundbreaking ceremony for the new PHP515-million legislative building is scheduled for December 4. This event marks the beginning of a significant infrastructure project in the city.

According to Philippines News Agency, the four-story building is part of the city’s priority projects, funded by a PHP4.4-billion loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines. The structure is designed to house the offices of the City Council and other departments and will be situated adjacent to the Bacolod City Government Center in the eastern part of the city.

Mayor Benitez stated that the City Council is expected to ratify the contract he signed with the contractor on Wednesday. Following this ratification and subsequent notification, a notice to proceed will be issued to begin construction. The mayor previously released a video showcasing the architect’s perspective of the proposed legislative building.

The building’s design allocates the first two floors to the Department of Social Services and Development, the City Engineer’s Office, and the Registry of Deeds, which are currently located at the Hall of Justice. Councilor Jude Thaddeus Sayson, chair of the committee on appropriation and finance, noted that the City Council authorized Mayor Benitez to sign the contract with Legacy Construction Corp./M.K.U. Construction and Supply, a Manila-based firm.

The city government had issued the notice of award to the contractor on September 20, and the contractor confirmed its intention to undertake the design and build project on October 12. The project mobilization is set to start 10 days after the contractor receives the notice to proceed, with a targeted completion timeline of 840 days, as outlined in the contract.

Mayor Benitez emphasized the need for the new legislative building, citing overcrowding in the current Government Center. He stressed the importance of providing additional space for employees to work efficiently and deliver quality services to the public.
