Airports provide aid, shelter to ‘Kristine’-hit communities

Manila: The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Friday at least four airports across Luzon continue to provide assistance and shelter to passengers and nearby communities affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami).

As of Oct. 25, the CAAP said Romblon Airport has provided free phone charging to affected residents in the area, which continued to experience commercial power outages.

The Bicol International Airport has also provided supplies, such as water, coffee, biscuits, and bread, to stranded passengers and employees in the airport.

On-duty security guards on the airside were advised to temporarily relocate to the passenger terminal building while about 40 passengers were accommodated.

Airport operations resumed on Oct. 25 at 3 a.m. and past 7 a.m. with a Philippine Air Force C130 aircraft carrying rescue equipment and relief items landing safely.

Meanwhile, passengers who decided to stay at the Tacloban Airport were also accommodated and given refreshment
s and coffee inside the terminal building.

At the Naga Airport, at least 43 individuals, composed of four families and students attending the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, were given shelter.

CAAP said only a family of four remains at the airport, waiting for water to subside in their area. (
