500 RUNNERS PARTICIPATE IN SARAWAK SUKMA BATON RUN IN SRI AMAN


SIMANGGANG, Five hundred participants took part in the 9th series of the XXI Sarawak Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para SUKMA Baton Run held at the Sri Aman Waterfront, here today.

The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in a statement on its official portal said participants had arrived at the location as early as 6am to take part in the aerobics exercise that was held before the Baton Run.

‘Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development and Simanggang State Assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis flagged off the Baton Run.

‘The participants were led by the State’s Sports Icon and former state footballer Abang Yahya Abang Sulaiman throughout the 3.3km run that passed through several main roads in the Sri Aman town,’ said the statement.

Also present were Sri Aman Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operations) who is also the Chief Executive Officer for the 2024 Sarawak SUKMA Secretariat, Datuk Hii Chang Kee and Lingga State Ass
emblyman Dayang Norazah Awang Sohor.

The statement from UKAS said Sri Aman will play host to boxing which is scheduled from Aug 17 to 24.

The Baton Run will proceed to Serian on Sunday.
