500 MAF veterans awarded PJM medals

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) — A total of 500 Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veteran were awarded the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) at Dewan Ababil, Subang Air Base here today.

The Department of MAF Veteran Affairs (JHEV) announced in a statement today that the awards were presented by Chief of Air Force Gen Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan, representing Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang.

According to the department, the recipients included 13 widows receiving the medals on behalf of their late husbands.

“The awarding of the PJM, coordinated by the department, is a testament to the courage, bravery and loyalty of personnel in contributing to the freedom of Malaysia from the Communist threat and is only awarded to those who fulfil the set conditions,” the department said.

The conditions include having served or be involved in continuous operations for three months or more, or having been in active duty for no less than six months in any MAF team or formation from Jan 1, 1969 to Dec 2, 1989 for operations against the Communist Party of Malaya.

To date, a total of 34,132 MAF veterans have received the PJM while veterans who qualify but have yet to receive their medals will be scheduled to receive them in the future.
