47% of power lines affected by rail projects relocated

MANILA: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has coordinated with electric utility provider Manila Electric Company (Meralco) to relocate power lines and other facilities that will be affected by the ongoing construction of several rail projects.

To date, Meralco has completed 47 percent of almost 700 relocation work orders.

DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said they are grateful to Meralco for acting swiftly on the work orders.

‘We are here to collaborate with Meralco to ensure smooth implementation of our rail projects by coordinating the relocation of power facilities to be affected by the subsequent phases of these railway constructions,’ Bautista said in a statement Friday.

Meralco’s quick response is necessary to meet the construction schedule for rail projects that are interfacing with electric lines, he added.

‘We want Meralco to be on board so we can efficiently solve right-of-way issues and accomplish these projects as soon as possible,’ he said.
