350 Made Homeless In Bintulu Longhouse Fire

BINTULU, More than 350 people were left homeless when fire destroyed a 23-door longhouse in Sungai Labang, Sebauh today.

However, no casualties were reported.

A spokesperson for the Operations Centre of the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the blaze completely destroyed the wooden longhouse which was about 30 metres by 100 metres in size.

He said that firemen from the Bintulu and Samalaju fire and rescue stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 3.23 pm.

The fire was brought under control at 5 pm.

The cause of the incident and the losses incurred are still under investigation.
