malaysiangManila: The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center currently has 169 projects worth PHP3.2 trillion in the pipeline for undertaking between the government and private sector.
Data obtained from the PPP Center on Wednesday showed that to date, majority or 113 of these projects are at the national level and the remaining 56 projects will be implemented by local government units (LGUs).
The updated list includes 91 solicited and 78 unsolicited projects.
Data provided by the PPP Center also showed that projects that will likely be awarded by the end of the year include the upgrade, expansion, operations, and maintenance of the New Bohol International Airport, and Negros Occidental Bulk Water Supply Project.
Projects that are expected to be awarded early next year are the UP-PGH (University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital) Cancer Center, Bislig City Bulk Water Supply, Bislig City Septage Project, and the Dialysis Center PPP Project for the Renal Center Facility of the Baguio General Hospital an
d Medical Center.
Projects that will likely be submitted to the approving body, meanwhile, include the Boracay Bridge Project, Metro Manila Subway Project operations and maintenance (OandM), Metro Manila Subway Project OandM Project, North-South Commuter Railway OandM Project, San Ramon Newport Project, UP PGH Diliman Project, and the Iloilo International Airport Project.
National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan earlier said that PPPs are crucial in strengthening disaster resilience in the Philippines, particularly in developing more climate-resilient infrastructure.
‘Limited fiscal space, especially in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, necessitates developing our governance framework for public-private partnerships to finance climate-resilient infrastructure,’ Balisacan said in his speech during the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Pasay City on Oct. 15.
Balisacan said that while most of the country’s PPP projects are in th
e physical and digital connectivity sectors, ‘major water supply, flood control, and irrigation infrastructure projects are also in the pipeline.”
He said these projects are included in PPPs “to meet the economy’s growing needs while ensuring climate-change resiliency.’
