14 dead, 3 others hurt in Negros Oriental road mishap

DUMAGUETE: At least 14 people died and three others were injured as the truck they were riding lost its brakes and fell off a cliff at Sitio Tubod, Barangay Bulwang in Mabinay, Negros Oriental, Wednesday afternoon.

The passengers were all livestock buyers from La Libertad, Negros Oriental.

They were on their way to Dauis, Bayawan City when the truck they were riding, driven by Antonio Boganotan Toreno, lost its brakes and overshot the road before it fell off the cliff past 1:30 p.m.

Lt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said Boganotan, a widower, also from La Libertad, was among the three of the injured and now recuperating at the health center in Mabinay.

Police identified 10 of the fatalities as Jun Jun Magos, Peding Desipolo, a certain Lindo, a certain Leo, a certain Jemboy, Junior Desipolo, a certain Marlon, Ric Ric Desipolo, Dodoy Magos and Allan Flores.

Four others have yet to be identified.

Two others injured were identified as Almer Gargoles and Jovan
ni Flores.

Polinar said the police is preparing to file a complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide against the driver.
