10,000 Visitors Targeted To Enliven Kuala Perlis Water Festival

KUALA PERLIS, About 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the Kuala Perlis Water Festival from tomorrow until Sunday (Sept 15) after it was last organised in 2019 before being halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

State Secretary Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan believes that the presence of visitors to Perlis in conjunction with the school holidays will also reinvigorate the Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025.

He said some notable events at the water festival include the rowing competition, involving 14 village teams from around Kuala Perlis and two invitational sides from Thailand, and a boat decoration competition.

“Several years ago, we stopped because of COVID-19 and now that we are reviving it, the participation of the Kuala Perlis community is very encouraging. They are excited to revive this tradition,’ he told reporters after launching the 2024 Gotong-Royong Programme and Community Cleanliness Hero Competition here today.

Che Murad Sayang said the Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail
will launch the water festival on Friday (Sept 13).

Meanwhile, a media statement issued by the Perlis government said it hoped that the programme and competition, organised by the state government in collaboration with the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) and Kangar Municipal Council, would have a positive impact on the Kuala Perlis area.

Fourteen villages around Kuala Perlis took part in the competition and Kampung Tanah Baru was declared the 2024 Community Cleanliness Hero after collecting 1,208 kilogrammes (kg) of rubbish.
